Saying Goodbye Hurts - a short postcard fiction love story by Rob Hopcott

She had three inch high heels, wore brightly colored tight dresses, spoke with a crazy husky voice that boomed out from under her brunette fringe and had the habit of getting herself into the sort of trouble in nightclubs that I couldn't resist getting her out of.

I followed her into bars, boardrooms and bedrooms. Like a fly on the wall, I luxuriated in her strong perfumes and observed her mannerisms, her philosophy and even the way she made love to barflies, barmen and, in the last resort, bar babes.

Irresistibly, she became a part of my life.

Every morning, as the California sun slanted through my bedroom window, I'd turn to see her head on my pillow and my heart would lurch with the teasing look in her eyes as she reached out for me.

Every night I would stagger from my bottle to my bed and blow her a parting kiss as she headed downtown for new adventures but only after she had promised to 'tell all' in the morning.

Sadly, I knew, one day, it had to end.

It was always going to hurt and when the time came to say goodbye, it broke my heart.

But there was no alternative and one day, I had to write ...

The End

Wow I like that!

What a clever chap you are!

Thanks for the comment about space on my blog, because of you I have put rather an interesting space video on there. It is about 6 minutes long but worth while watching if you have not seen it before.

Cheers!

Hi Minx

Thanks for the kind words about my story.

I think I found your blog via google alerts under West Country / Devon / Somerset / Cornwall writers (I'm not sure which).

I liked your fiction blog. It has some really entertaining stories :-)

Well met!

I enjoyed this - thank you :]

Thanks Miladysa, it makes all the effort of crafting the phrases worthwhile.

By the way, I thought your poem 'Take Me Away' was great. It would make a fine song.

I'll check back and read more for sure.

"Privage Message"

Dear Rob,

I dont know if you remember me … its Amir Saleem here, who got some of his short stories published at your hopcott.net website in year 2000. I remember, because you were the first person ever to have published my work; and I have always been thankful to you.

A few days back, I started an online magazine (can you believe it :D) … and I find no other person that I would personally ask to write something for the magazine than you. It would be an honor for me if you could share even a phrase or a line at the magazine website. It would be an inspiration for many amteur writers like me.

You can find the magazine at http://www.libremagazine.com and if you think its worth it, we would love it if you could write something for us.

Grateful to you as always,

Amir
